Lynn Riley - Band Leader
Saxophonist/Flutist/Composer/Educator
“(Riley’s) a show-stopper. She wails, she grooves, she swings. She plays with authority, with power, with soul.”—Philadelphia Daily News
“Ms. Riley is a sax dynamo who can blow away the walls or soothe the savage beasts. —True Van Deusen, Philly jazz
The leader of Lynn Riley & The World-Mix, Lynn is known as the “Superwoman” of the saxophone. Combining her passion for ethnomusicology and Jazz, she composes world-influenced jazz compositions that have been further enriched by her travels to and performances in Ghana, Cuba, South Africa, Bolivia, Brazil, Bali, Spain, and Colombia. The band’s latest Grammy-considered recording, Head to the Sky Lynn Riley & The World-Mix (2022), has been described as “Philadelphia home-grown Jazz meets World Music” and was on the Jazz radio charts for over 22 weeks.
Based in Philadelphia, she has performed with David Murray, Johnny Pacheco, Grover Washington Jr., Philly Joe Jones, David Bromberg, Peter White, Rachelle Farrell, and Charles Earland, among others. She has performed at festivals and concerts throughout the U.S. and internationally, and is an Assistant Professor of Music at Drexel University.

Rubin Edwards - Music Director
Producer/Writer/Arranger/Bassist
Rubin’s skills as a composer, arranger, and producer have culminated in many recordings, including the Grammy-nominated Mess of Things (Carla Bean, 2012) and the World-Mix’s recordings Head to the Sky, Lynn Riley & The World-Mix (2022), Lynn Riley and The World-Mix Say What (2014), and Too Cool (2009).
Rubin has performed at festivals and colleges throughout the U.S. and abroad, including Musicfest, the Berks Jazz Festival, the Cape May Jazz Festival, the Mellon Jazz Festival, the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, Festijazz La Paz, Bolivia, and the Hartford Jazz Festival. He has played with Gene Carne, Phil Woods, Peter Nero, Rachelle Farrell, Elio Villafranca and Doc Gibbs.

Rene Ginett - Voice
Vocalist
Rene was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Philadelphia. Singing in the church from age 9, he gained a rich understanding and appreciation for both modern and classical sacred music. Coupled with the ever-present sounds of R&B and Latin music, these experiences helped develop Rene’s soulful, personal, and evocative style. From Mexico to Italy, from Atlanta to Puerto Rico and Hawaii, Rene has earned new fans everywhere he has performed.
Rene performed regularly at Zanzibar Blue from 2004 to 2007 with Ellas y Amigos. More recently, he has sung at South Jazz with Lynn Riley & The World-Mix. He has worked with the Suzette Ortiz Latin Jazz Ensemble for over 25 years. He has been a featured soloist with Fruits of the Spirit, the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus, and the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus. In 2015, he had the honor of singing for Pope Francis.
Rene has studied improvisational vocal performance with Bobby McFerrin and Rhiannon (a member of McFerrin’s Voicestra). He sings fluently in English and Spanish, occasionally in Portuguese and German, and has recorded both with Suzette Ortiz and Lynn Riley.
